Computer Dreaming

Stumbled upon this thing on Amazon: i-XL Mediaworkstation (4 x NVIDIA GTX Titan X) . It doesn't look that dramatic, but the specs are pretty incredible. With a price tag of $32k, it's not for the faint of wallet.

My Beloved Apple

There are so many things I love about the Apple and the Mac platform. However, the whole dotMac/Mobileme thing has been a resounding disappointment. Besides being sluggish, the whole interface is, well, clunky and blah. I also think iWeb, and the way it works with Mobileme sucks terribly. Why am I still using it, you might ask? Just one thing, actually: backups. Ok, that and coveting an iPhone. Seriously, though, with the exception of the automated backups (and the integration with such programs as Quicken), all the other pieces are better done by others; much better done. Picasa and Flikr do better with photo sharing. Blogger and Wordpress are much better at person websites/blogging. The Mobileme calendar is quite lame. In many respects, I think I should simply stick with Google for most of my online needs. Picasa, Blogger, etc; though I still love my Macs. I'm sure that I'll be swayed to check out the next offerings they have. I deeply hope they keep working.

Computer Science

I have explored computers deeply, I guess. I have studied Unix, FORTRAN, COBOL, and C. Just as importantly, I know what all this stuff is, which makes me a bit geeky. However, it was never my passion. All the way back in junior high, when I made a great deal of noise about wanting to work for NASA and build robots, I would read Plato, Campbell, ''The Beother's Karamatsov'', ''The Scarlett Letter'', ''The Red Badge Of Courage'', and such. Geeky, perhaps, but not of the same venue. Only rarely, and with effort, did I read sciencey text. My main passions, as defined by what I love to read in my free-time. Would be poetry and History. My interest in Computer Science, et al, is much more linked to power and, more recently, money. A desire to prove people wrong about me, to prove my intelligence also drove this, and it's lingered way too long as a psychological subtext.
