Not Able To View Tabs In Google Sheets

We had an issue today of not being able to view the worksheet tabs across the bottom of a Google Sheet spreadsheet. This one was extremely annoying as I couldn't see the screen of the user in question. Oddly, when I opened up the same sheet, I couldn't either. But simply scrolling down brought the tabs into view. Didn't work for the person I was helping, though. So, I poked around the internets and found this discussion in Google Docs Help . There are a couple of things they recommend. if you have the Ask toolbar in your browser, remove it try opening the spreadsheet using "incognito mode" if that works, then we need to disable extensions until we determine the one causing the problem try resizing the browser screen try using Firefox (or another browser. If you're in Firefox, then try Chrome or IE) Anyway, I hope you find this helpful. Let me know in the comments.

Fixing Youtube "Embedding disabled by request"

So, one of my team's videos was showing this error: "embedding disabled by request". I have no idea how that setting got changed, as I simply uploaded it and then tried to embed it into our website. As you'd expect, this was obnoxious. Finding the solution was a bit annoying, too, as the most recent post I found, from 2009, Which, as you might expect, wasn't helpful. However, I did get it figured out. Go to www.YouTube.com/my_videos . This will give you the master list of all your videos. Skim through to the video in question, click "Edit".  Go to "Advanced Settings"  Scroll down to "Distribution Options" & Click Allow Embedding"

Java, Lenovo, Crapware and my Annoyance

I wrote about Java's sneaky install of the Ask.com crap before , but this has come up again for me. So, let me go on a little bit more. When installing Java, or Java updates, make sure you uncheck the "Search App by Ask". Watch for this screen here: Fortunately, the fix for this is pretty straightforward: go to Control Panel, Remove Programs and then remove it . I love Java, and Oracle, but this just annoys the heck out of me. This puts them in the same doghouse that Lenovo resides in right now . I find it annoying enough for them to embed this adware at the root level, but then to try and minimize the security risk involved just angers me. I've had great success with Lenovo machines and like to recommend them. This, though, greatly impacts that trust. In case you have one of the possibly infected machines , here are some tools for you: How to remove SuperFish Detect SuperFish on your machine (this seems to be offline right now. Server's probably g...

Skype Birthday Issue

My started with a few chums wishing me a happy birthday. Problem? It's not my birthday (October, if you care). Turns out, my Skype profile was displaying today is my day of happiness and aging acknowledgment. My profile in Skype was right. So, after a brief, and fruitless, web search, it finally occurred to me, "check the website". Sure enough, my profile at Skype.com was pretty weirdly messed up. My full name appeared in my First Name spot, my picture was gone, and my birthday was today. Oddly, I made the edits, clicked save, then pinged a friend to see if they'd taken. Nope. Then I tried the slow approach. Changed the profile pic. Saved. Clicked out, then back into my profile. Edit. Change Name. Out. Then back. Change birthday. Out. Back. I've logged out, then back in. The changes seem to be holding. We'll see. My theory is something got mucked up during the port over the Microsoft. Perhaps with the interconnection with my Hotmail account. Or, well, who ...

#Facebook Business Page Fun - Anybody Else Dealt With This?

I've come up against a unique problem. One of the other admins for a business page I manage is unable to invite her friends to "like" it. When she clicks on "invite friends", her whole list is grayed out. One of the challenges I'm facing with diagnosing the problem is that we're ~30 miles apart, so I'm relying on voice to communicate the visual issues. I've found a few others with this issue, but no conclusive answer. My basic research shows that the main culprit for these issues is that they've already been invited ( like this page mentions ).  However, in this instance, there are people who haven't been invited that are appearing grayed out. These appear to be unrelated issues. A few additional details: 1) my view is fine. I can invite everyone in my network except those who have been invited. In other words, the way it's supposed to look. 2) We have verified that she is logged in as herself, not as the business page. I'm ...

iOS & Gmail : Failing Flags

After I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6, one of the big issues I was faced with was flagging emails in my personal domain (which is hosted by google apps). This is set-up via Exchange. Turns out the problem is manically simple: the optional domain setting. Under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > "account name" > Account, after "Email" (which is how you name this guy) & "Server" is "Domain". After changing this from blank to "google", the ability to flag in this account came right back. iPhone on good health! I'll add more about my iOS 6 update journey soon.
