Pownce

I’ve been messing around with Powne lately. It has some interesting elements, particularly the ability to file share. I also like how it ties different services, but Friendfeed does that way better. It seems to be a slightly expanded Twitter, and I am trying to figure out how I can use this. Anyone else using this heavily? What do you think?

 

I guess Scoble’s comment sums it up: “I can’t take many more social networks.”

It's amazing how quickly these social networking sites grow without your even attending to them. I got a Facebook account down at the University of Oregon as a way to contact sources. You'd be amazed how many people put their phone numbers up there. But now I check it at least three times a week.

I joined MySpace at a friends request, and it's also grown quite a bit.

I have avoided Twitter, and plan to continue avoiding it. This comic sums up my feelings:

Cute comic. I've heard keys clicking in bathroom stalls, so I'm sure this is someone's reality.

I got my Facebook and Myspace accounts while researching social sites, and then let them languish. Once I was found out by friends, though, it was a whirlwind.

I can't imagine getting rid of a Mac willingly.

Look at how often this imagery gets pushed into our faces, and how long that’s been going on. It shouldn’t surprise me, really, that I sometimes feel this way. Though my conscious values oppose this, the lingering thread of this programming has threads into the depths psyche.

iPad and other glories

Perhaps I’m the only Macfan that’s not gaga over the iPad. It’s an interesting idea, but I’m just not sold on the concept. For what it offers, I think it would be valuable (to me) at a much lower price-point. Say, < $100. Then I could conceive. Heck, if it were $200 I would be sorely, SORELY tempted. But not $500. It doesn’t offer me much more than my iPhone. And I almost never use my Sony eReader (if the Mac version of the desktop software actually worked with it, then I might use it more). Anyway, if the iPad had handwriting recognition, or could do more with photo editing...I don’t know.
